If you go to the right side palettes under the Polypaint subpalette, you can toggle the COLORIZE button to turn on and off the texture if you wish to edit the mesh without having to look through the texture. You won't be able to edit the vertices on the mesh whil in Spotlight mode. Pressing this after selecting your texture image will launch Spotlight AND place your texture on the screen. This works with jpeg and PSD! Under the same TEXTURE menu, find the "Add to Spotlight" button. Load in your image the way you would normally load in a texture (ie: import texture).
